During October 2023’s mass shooting in Lewiston, Meghan Hutchinson’s quick reflexes and incredible bravery undoubtedly saved lives. While the Greene, ME resident was at her daughter Zoey’s bowling practice at Just-In-Time Recreation, Hutchinson heard the distressing sound of gunshots and immediately guided Zoey and others to safety amidst the chaos.
As chaos erupted and Zoey was grazed by a bullet, Hutchinson’s maternal instinct kicked in. With sheer determination and grit, she swiftly rearranged the room’s layout, strategically positioning furniture and shelves as a barricade. Even amidst the unfolding chaos outside, her actions ensured the safety of those sheltering within.
For her unparalleled courage, selfless acts, and life-saving actions during the recent, devastating mass shooting incident in Lewiston, Meghan Hutchinson was honored as a Hero Among Us during the Boston Celtics home game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday, December 1st.
Since its establishment in 1997 by the Boston Celtics, the Heroes Among Us program has recognized outstanding individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to their communities. The award is presented at every Celtics home game and pays tribute to the heroic achievements of these outstanding citizens.
