PORTLAND – The Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School girls’ basketball team won the Class AA state title March 6, beating Gorham 62-25, at Cross Insurance Arena. The title game came after a hard-fought North regional title win over Cheverus in double overtime Feb 24. The 68-63 win was the sixth North regional title in seven years for the Vikings.
In the state championship game, Oxford Hills’ Tristen Derenburger broke a Class AA girls’ 3-pointer record with six, for a game-high total of 18 points. Sierra Carson, a Miss Basketball Maine finalist, scored 17, Ella Pelletier and Gabbie Tibbetts each added 10 points, with Maddy Miller and Molly Corbett rounding out the scorers.
The Vikings reached the finals with a Class AA North win over Cheverus in double overtime. Carson scored 29 points in that game. Oxford Hills finished the season 21-1. The Vikings also won the state crown in 2019 and 2020.
