AUGUSTA — New Ventures Maine is offering tuition-free online and in-person workshops and classes in March in on topics including career, business and financial education.
Workshops and classes are designed to help people in Maine gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to start a business, build a career, and manage money. The full class schedule is updated frequently and is accessible at newventuresmaine.org.Some of the courses being offered in the coming weeks are:
MONEY MANAGEMENT
My Money Works, 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, online, gain the skills and confidence to stretch money, pay bills, reduce debt, find money for savings, plan for retirement, and set personal financial goals with a plan to achieve greater financial stability.
Managing Your Money, 10-11 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 23, 30. Learn to budget, repair credit, and create a savings plan. Attend one, two, or all three workshops. March 16: Budgeting Basics; March 23: Let’s Talk About Credit; March 30: Build Your Savings.
CAREER
Connecting Women to Construction Careers, 10 to 11 a.m. or 4-7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 2, a virtual session is designed for women and underrepresented workers to explore high-wage careers within the construction trades as well as low-cost or no-cost training programs and job opportunities.
Building Confidence, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 2, online, whether navigating recent changes, looking for a job, starting a business, or simply want to be more confident, join this class to assess confidence and learn concrete tools to help build confidence and keep it strong.
Making Career Choices, 10 to 11 a.m. or 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, or Tuesday, March 21, online. For those ready for a career change, but don’t know where to start. Covers what to consider when making a career choice and resources to help you succeed.
Job Search Workshops. 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 21, 28, online, join one, two, or all three of these workshops. March 14: Job Search Strategies; March 21: Resume Strategies; March 28: Interview Strategies.
Changing Jobs: Finding Work That Fits, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 29 and April 5, online, designed for women to identify work options and benefits that align with interests, skills, and values.
SELF-EMPLOYMENT
Introduction to Self-Employment, noon to1 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, online. Covers the pros and cons of owning a business, steps needed for startup, major elements of a business plan, and resources to help you succeed.
Tax Readiness for the Self-Employed, noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, March 9, online, learn how to organize financial records, understand tax responsibilities, become familiar with tax forms, and file taxes with confidence. Designed for sole proprietors.
Venturing Forth: Business Planning for Entrepreneurs, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday March 13-June 12, in person in Brunswick. A 60-hour business planning course covers your customer, competition, marketing, record keeping, taxes, financing, legal aspects, and more. For new or existing business owners. Applications due by noon Friday, March 10.
Business Basics, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 29 – April 12, online, covers basics of a business plan, marketing, and cash planning. It will help you assess the feasibility, desirability, and viability of your business idea and get you started with your plan.
