AUGUSTA – The local working group for USDA Funding for Kennebec and Lincoln counties will discuss how federal conservation money should be spent at a meeting from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 12, in Room 145, August City Hall, 16 Cony St.
Agricultural producers, foresters, loggers, private woodland owners, members of environmental and watershed organizations and land trusts are all welcome to attend, as is anyone familiar with agricultural and natural resource concerns in Kennebec or Lincoln counties. Registration through the Kennebec or Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation District is required.
The SWCDs, in cooperation with the Natural Resources Conservation Service field office, is sponsoring the meeting, which will take local resource concerns into account on how to spend USDA Farm Bill money for conservation practices on private lands.
Those attending may help identify and prioritize local conservation concern as well as recommend how local USDA Environmental Quality Incentive Programs money will be distributed by NRCS to alleviate problems. Those who can’t attend may send comments to their local SWCD.
