Maine people deserve better from their government. We score very low on many economic measures. Our young people are moving to other states, mainly because the average income is so much higher than Maine. While we watch Pixell close its Jay paper mill, Irving, a major Maine forest landowner, has built a new state-of-the-art paper mill in Georgia.
Parents need schools that perform better. Through vouchers or other means, I believe education money should follow the students to the school of their choice, and will advance policies and legislation that will accomplish this.
With few exceptions, the Democratic party has controlled Maine government for some 60 years. I believe we need to move in a different direction. Along with other Republicans, I will support policies and legislation that will reduce the cost and other burdens of government that are holding our economic conditions down.
