WINSLOW – Winslow Community Cupboard food pantry serves more than 220 food-insecure families and is adding 18 to 20 families a month. Because of the upsurge, it’s seeking new one-time and recurring monetary donations.
The food pantry assists food-insecure children, seniors, and other adults from 24 area towns, including Winslow (35% of clientele), Waterville (35%), Fairfield (20%), Clinton, and Benton. Clients over the age of 60 make up 46% of its client registrations.
“The dramatic increase in the cost of groceries, rent, gas, utilities, and other items means many of our neighbors — for the first time ever — are dependent on our food pantry,” said Bruce Bottiglierie, operations manager at Winslow Community Cupboard. “In August alone, we provided more than 80,000 pounds of food to our neighbors in need. And demand just keeps escalating and escalating.”
Bottiglierie said he hopes that area businesses and individuals will join in Winslow Community Cupboard’s Replenish the Cupboard effort. Businesses and individuals may pledge $50, $25, or whatever they can afford, each month, with donations always strictly voluntary. Winslow Community Cupboard food pantry is a ministry of Winslow Congregational Church and is open 8 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of the month.
