UNITY — The Sebasticook Regional Land Trust is bringing its popular nature Speaker Series to Waterville. The series presents a broad range of nature topics to the public, offered free of charge. Previously, the series was held in Unity, and for the past two years, online.
The series will be held monthly at Chace Community Forum, 150 Main St., Waterville.
The presentations by experts are designed to educate and engage the public. Doug Wescott, member of the SRLT Board of Directors, said that the talks were very popular when held in Unity, and the aim of moving to them Waterville is to engage and educate a larger audience.
“Because the Sebasticook River flows through the towns of Benton, Clinton, Burnham and Winslow, moving this series to Waterville is a natural change,” Wescott said.
The first Waterville talk will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, when conservation biologist Geri Vistein will talk about her work with coyotes, their ecology, their complex cultures and history, and how humans can coexist with them. Vistein works closely with farmers who wish to learn coexisting skills with coyotes.
At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, in recognition of Halloween and Bat Month, Cory Stearns, small mammal biologist with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife will speak about the status of the eight bat species that fly in Maine.
At 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, the topic will be “What is a Watershed,” presented by Christian Fox, watershed restoration specialist, The Nature Conservancy – Maine.
