VASSALBORO — Cubs in Vassalboro Pack 410 met with members of the Maine Warden Service recently to learn about the role the service plays in protecting Maine’s outdoor heritage.
Sgt Josh Bubier and Warden Jake Voter talked about a day in the life of a game warden, what it takes to become a warden and introduced the Cubs to Koda, a tracking dog.
The Cubs learned about many different animals found in Maine including bobats, red fox, racoon, moose, black bear, otter, muskrat, possum and weasels.
Cub Master Christopher Santiago said the highlight of the presentation was meeting Koda, who with Voter in May found a missing woman who spent two nights lost in the woods in Bremen. They found the 77-year-old woman just two days after Koda and Voter found an 11-year-old missing girl.
“What a great night for our pack,” Santiago said. “A huge thank-you to Sgt. Bubier and Warden Voter. Thanks to all our den leaders and parents who got the majority of our boys out to this event.”
The pack has a recruiting event at the Vassalboro family movie night on Saturday, Aug. 20. Santiago said he will be there around 7 p.m.. There’s also an event at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the Vassalboro Community School open house.
