SKOWHEGAN — Local organizations in Somerset County and around the world are coming together on Wednesday, Aug. 31, International Overdose Awareness Day, to remember those who have died or suffered permanent injury because of a drug overdose. In September, National Recovery Month, organizations and individuals will celebrate those on their recovery journey.
While each event has a different focus, both share an overall goal to create a better understanding of overdose, reduce the stigma of substance use disorder, and create change that reduces the harm associated with drug use.
Watch Somerset Public Health’s social media throughout August and September for recovery resources and information about Recovery Month events, including the fourth annual ROAR (Recovery & Opioid Addiction Resources) Rally from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Kennebec Behavioral Health Recovery Trail, 5 Commerce Drive.
