Pandemic brain hasn’t taken the edge of Mainers’ mental sharpness, if a quiz from online puzzle site im-a-puzzle.com is any indication.
In a quiz given to 5,000 adults across the U.S. using questions taken from the Scholastic Aptitude Test, Mainers finished sixth overall.
Some 66% of Mainers taking the quiz passed, compared to the national average of 58%. Mainers did better in math, with a 73% score, compared to the national average of 61%, but struggled with evidence-based reading and writing (EBRW0, with 59% passing, compared to 61% overall.
Neal Taparia, from im-a-puzzle.com said, “It’s great to see that, overall, most adults across the country haven’t got too much to worry about when it comes to their post-pandemic brain sharpness. It’s always a good thing to brush up on our general math and EBRW skills, and online quizzes are a great way to exercise this knowledge, even if you don’t have upcoming SATs scheduled.”

The best-performing state was New Jersey, followed by Massachusetts, Connecticut, Washington and Utah. The worst-performing state was Arkansas.
