Lewiston announces promotions, new hires

LEWISTON – City residents will see some familiar faces in new roles, as well as some new faces, as the city recently promoted two employees and hired three more, in public safety, economic development and social services. City officials said the personnel moves are a reminder that careers in municipal government allow individuals to work in a team environment with many diverse opportunities, including in their hometown.

Mark Anderson was recently promoted to assistant fire chief. Anderson began as a volunteer firefighter at 18, joined the Lewiston department in 2005 and became a lieutenant in 2017. He earned an associate degree in fire science at Southern Maine Community College, and as a member of the Lewiston department has developed the department’s ice water rescue curriculum and delivered several other specialty-training programs. He also volunteers with a peer-counseling group designed to support first responders. He has also responded to wildfires in California, Colorado, Montana and Canada with a Maine Forest Service team. In his non-work time, he enjoys soccer with his three children, mountain biking and exploring Maine’s outdoors.
Officer Brian Bourgoin, of the Lewiston Police Dept., was promoted to detective. Bourgoin joined the department in 2009, served as a patrol officer and field training officer and was assigned to the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration as a task force officer, investigating complex drug crimes. Bourgoin is also an active member of the Lewiston Police hockey team.
Amanda Grenier was recently hired as fire department fire prevention clerk. A Lewiston native, Grenier is a Husson University graduate, and most recently worked for the Oxford County Probate Court in South Paris.
Kon Maiwan was recently hired as economic development specialist. Maiwan grew up in Lewiston and was chair of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council. He attended college in Atlanta, and worked as vice-chair of the Atlanta University Center Neighborhood Association, which included economic development ombudsman duties. In his new role, Maiwan will help businesses thrive and move the city forward.
Osvaldo Francisco has been hired as a caseworker with the Social Services Department. Director Elaine Brackett noted that he is highly motivated and compassionate and will be an asset to the department and the clients they serve. Francisco is luent in both English and Portuguese.
