FARMINGDALE — Dr. Jessica Sikora hadn’t been to Maine before applying to dental school at the University of New England. Growing up in a small town in Pennsylvania, she worked in a dental office from high school through graduate school and hoped to find an office with a similar approach and values, where she would feel at home.
“Having had such a great dental mentor back home, it was really important to me that I found something similar in a practice,” Sikora said. The ADA Practice Transitions program helped her find a match at Gagnon Dental, where she joined Dr. Shanna Gagnon in June 2020.
Since she began practice, Sikora has seen some of Gagnon’s long-time patients while continuing to build her own patient base.
“I feel as though it is important to spend time with each patient and learn their individual oral health priorities,” she said. “I can tailor their treatment to provide them with the best possible outcome.”
So far, she has felt welcome and has enjoyed getting to know the staff and her patients. “Everyone has been so nice, and our staff feels like family,” Sikora said.
One of her favorite perks of living in Maine is easy access to mountains, lakes and the ocean. “I love being able to hike, ski, go to the beac, or be out on the water – it’s a great place to live,” she said. “I’m looking forward to what the future brings, and I’m grateful to be here.”
