Madison Legion auxiliary raises more than $1,000 for backpack program

Oct. 272021

MADISON – Every year, members of Tardiff-Belanger American Legion Auxiliary Unit 39 donate backpacks filled with school supplies as part of its support of community programs.
Again this year, because of the unknowns at the beginning of the school year, the auxiliary reached out to the community. Between members and the community, the auxiliary was able to donate more than $1,000 worth of school supplies, backpacks, bottles of hand sanitizer, alcohol wipes, water bottles, boxes of tissues, and masks to seven schools in the Madison and Anson area.
The items were delivered to the schools in mid-October.
The American Legion Auxiliary has been dedicated to meeting the needs of veterans, military members and their families both here and abroad for more than a century. Auxiliary volunteers across the country also step up to honor veterans and military through annual scholarships and with ALA Girls State programs, teaching high school juniors to be leaders grounded in patriotism and Americanism.
