Canaan GFWC member nominated for national honor

SKOWHEGAN — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Maine has nominated Nancy Ames, of Canaan, for the organizations Jennie June Award.
The award is the national organization’s highest honor and the only one that recognizes individual members for personal excellence. Ames’ nomination reflects her outstanding commitment to her club, GFWC Semper Fidelis Club, community and family. The national winner will be named at the GFWC’s national convention scheduled for June.

The Jennie Award is named in honor of GFWC’s founder, Jane Cunningham Croly, who wrote for national newspapers under the pseudonym, Jennie June.
Ames has been a member of the GFWC Semper Fidelis Club of Skowhegan since 2008. From the start, she has been active in the club, volunteering, leading team, and taking on tough projects – all with competence, friendliness and success. A dedicated, results-oriented individual, Ames quickly assumed leadership roles including her club’s presidency and fulfilling ranks at the state level becoming GFWC Maine state president 2018. She is currently a member of GFWC Leadership committee. Ames has also applied her volunteer spirit and commitment to many other groups including the Canaan Library and Lake George Regional Park.
Ames emulates volunteer spirit and is an inspiration to us all, her fellow GFWC members said.. Her energy, knowledge, and dedication are major factors in GFWC Maine existence. She is a true leader, and we are so proud that she has been recognized for her many valuable contributions.
The GFWC has nearly 80,000 members, and is an international civic organization dedicated to creating positive change in local communities through volunteerism
