BRIDGTON — The Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club vowed to match the first $10,000 in donations from individuals, businesses and nonprofits in the Lakes Region. Although the Rotary Club’s campaign was focused on July and August, the match will continue into September, until that target number is reached.
Rotarian and chef Nicholas Orgo hosted a fundraiser at Stella’s on the Square in Bridgton for the Magic Lantern Project on Aug. 29, that raised $900 for the effort, and $700 came to Rotary during the following days.
“All $1,600 will be matched by Rotary,” said Dave Barker, Rotary’s Magic Lantern project manager.
The Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club is matching the first $10,000 in donations made by individuals, businesses and nonprofits to support the Magic Lantern Innovation Lab Project.
The project is being developed by the University of Maine and the 4H Foundation to increase the educational opportunities for youth and the community. The programs will focus on creative learning, career opportunities, internships, and UMaine research-based curriculum. The plan is to use the spaces at the Magic Lantern for special presentations, programs and events.
