Eagle Scout completes wheelchair accessible fishing ramp

SKOWHEGAN — Eagle Scout Michael Connolly, of BSA Troops 485 and 428, of Skowhegan and Pittsfield, has completed his Eagle project — a wheelchair accessible fishing platform on Lake George.
The grand opening for the platform was held May 28. It’s near Doggy Beach on the east side of Lake George Regional Park in Skowhegan and Canaan.

“Thank you once again to all the businesses and community members who helped make my dream Eagle Scout project possible,” Connolly said. “I was especially honored that Kellan Tilton was able to join me and cut the ribbon. I was told that Kellan had been awaiting the opening since his father told him of my project plan last August. I knew my project would benefit people who liked to fish, yet knowing that it also increased the opportunity for family outings was something I hadn’t fully thought of.
“I hope more community members learn of the dock and spread the word to people who would benefit from its availability,” he said. “Also, I gave it a few test runs and caught a really nice fish.”
Connolly, of Pittsfield, is a senior at Nokomis High School in Newport. His supporters in the project included Skowhegan Savings Bank, Hammond Lumber, Kleinschmidt Associates, Cianbro, Mattingly Products, Alpine Metal Works & Consulting, Hunter’s Insurance in Rhode Island, Maine Fire Equipment Co., Steve St. Pierre, Justin Spencer, Lake George Regional Park, Darren Files, Megan Peloquin, Joe Poulin, Connolly family, Bud’s Shop n’ Save in Pittsfield, Peloquin family, Canaan Superette, Home Depot of Waterville; Mike Davis at Cianbro, Shaws in Waterville, Lynch Landscaping, family friends, Scouts in te Kennebec Valley District – Pine Tree Council, community members of Pittsfield and Skowhegan and his fellow Scouts from Troops 485 and 428.
Rep. Amanda Witham-Collamore, R-District 106 (Clinton, Pittsfield and Detroit) officially presented Connolly with an official legislative sentiment recognizing his Eagle Scout rank. The sentiment was co-sponsored by Sen. Brad Farrin, R-Norridgewock.
