SKOWHEGAN — Michael Connolly of Boy Scout Troops 485 (Skowhegan) and 428 (Pittsfield) was awarded his Eagle Scout rank Jan. 31. His Eagle Project was completed this fall at Lake George Regional Park as he added a wheel chair accessible fishing platform and upgraded trail path near the doggy beach on the East side of the Park. Michael went on to pass his Eagle Scout Board of Review Dec. 7.
With respect to COVID guidelines, Michael celebrated his award ceremony with a small group of friends, family and leaders who significantly impacted his Scouting journey. Michael also received 12 Eagle Palms representing the 81 merit badges he had completed thus far. Michael is an adamant Scout with 141 nights of camping; 129 miles hiked; and 347 hours of community/conservation based service. He is a Brotherhood level member of the Order of the Arrow – Madockawanda Lodge – in Pine Tree Council, BSA. He is also a member of the “Bomazeen Old Timers” of Camp Bomazeen in Belgrade. Michael always laughs because he first joined the Old Timers at the “very old” age of nine.

A freshman at Nokomis Regional High School, Michael is participating in the Army JROTC program. He is also a Navy Sea Cadet in NCB39 Battalion of American Legion Post 39 in Madison. He plans to enter the military upon graduation (branch varies almost monthly) and aspires to return to Maine to train as a game warden or law enforcement officer following his military service.
