River Valley Rotary Club donates $2,000 to four local food pantries

Dec. 52020

RUMFORD — The River Vally Rotary Club held its fellowship meeting via zoom Nov. 30. The event featured guest and new Rotarian Judy Horne, of Dirigo Middle School. She will head up the Rotary club’s Early Act program.
“EarlyAct is a school-wide service club for elementary students from ages five to 13,” she said. “It is sponsored by one of the local Rotary clubs in the township in which the school is located.”
Horne was able to see the club’s member in action when raising money. For the holiday season, the special needs focused on this year, during the Covid-19 crisis, were the food pantries in dire need of donations. Since the River Valley Rotary Club did not conduct any in-person meetings and is forgoing the annual holiday social gathering, it was discussed and unanimously agreed on to donate $500 each of the four local food pantries in Dixfield, Mexico, Peru and Rumford.
If members of the general public have the means and desire to donate to such a needy cause, they can make a financial donation by sending a check to The River Valley Rotary Club, Food Pantry Donation, P.O. Box 192, Mexico, ME 04257.
