Take-Away Fundraiser May 21 will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine

May. 152020

Moe’s Original BBQ in Bangor and South Portland will host a Big Brothers Big Sisters Take-Away fundraiser all day Thursday, May 21, to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine. Ten percent of all food sales that day will be donated to support BBBS one-to-one mentoring programs in eastern, central and coastal Maine.
Customers can order takeout food as part of the fundraiser at both of the restaurant’s Bangor and Portland locations between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Moe’s Original BBQ is located at 650 Broadway in Bangor (207-992-9000) and 209 Western Ave. in South Portland (207-956-7623).
Gwendolyn Hudson, BBBS of Mid-Maine’s executive director, says the generous support comes at a critical time when the agency’s largest fundraiser, Bowl for Kids’ Sake, is postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“In times of uncertainty, the most vulnerable among us are the most impacted — especially youth,” Hudson said, “We are committed to keeping our matches connected and defending the potential of local youth through continued programming. We are especially grateful to Moe’s Original BBQ for making a big commitment to supporting kids in our communities.”
Dewey Hasbrouck, owner of Moe’s Original BBQ, and also a Big Brother, said he and his staff are proud to support Big Brothers Big Sisters during this challenging time.
“I’ve personally been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters for years, so we love supporting the organization in this way,” Hasbrouck said. “All of us at Moe’s BBQ understand how blessed we are to be open for business, so we’re trying to leverage our good fortune by supporting charities and non-profits with their fundraising efforts.”
The fundraiser features zero-contact ordering and pick-up, with no physical customer interaction. Customers can order online at www.moesoriginalbbq.com, or call ahead to order using a credit card. Pick-up is curbside on a table distancing employees from customers. Home delivery is offered in Bangor only from 2Dine-In, Door Dash, Uber Eats or Grubhub.
