Skowhegan DAR chapter seeks new members

SKOWHEGAN — The Eunice Farnsworth-Ruth Heald Cragin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution is invited area residents to join.
The DAR is a nonprofit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism. Its motto is “God, Home & Country,” and it has 3,000 chapters in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. , and in several countries. More than one million women have joined the DAR since it was founded.
Prospective members must be 18 or older, and, regardless of race or ethnic background, must be able to prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. The organizaiton offers assistance with joining.
Some of the things the EFRHC Chapter does are:
Discuss women’s issues, health tips, recycling, conservation, patriotism, growing gardens, pollination, and more;
Maintains the World War I Memorial Sundial Garden at Coburn Park;
Makes location donations, including to a local animal shelter, as well as donates clothing to schools so that if a child has an accident while at school they have a change of clothing available; donates comfort items such as toothpaste, tooth brushes, soaps, lotions, razors, shaving cream, deodorant, and more. for veterans at the VA hospital in Togus, as well as donates annually for newspapers there.
