LISBON — A recently passed law now allows all honorably discharged veterans to join the American Legion, regardless of the era or theater of service, and American Legion Post 158 historian Brian Govang is urging them to become members and experience the camaraderie.
“Over the past couple of years the Lisbon American Legion’s membership has dwindled for a variety of reasons beyond out control,” noted Ron Saindon, commander. “The Lisbon American Legion is a place away from home, — a veterans sanctuary away – with like minded people, and experiences just like your own.”
If you are a veteran, consider joining and helping support your local American Legion post and the Legion at large. The strength of the organization has played a critical role in lobbying for veterans legislation in D.C. as well as local initiatives. “We need the help and support of all veterans to continue our important mission in support of our veterans and troops,” he added.
Post 158 welcomes all Lisbon area veterans, who will experience a recently renovated smoke free facility and all membership has to offer. In addition to connections to local, state and federal veterans assistance, the post provide a space for our members and guests to relax and make connections.
Friday night often offer suppers, occasional dances, holiday events, etc. “As a member you can also reserve our event room for your own event (when available) such as birthday parties, celebrations of life, or other important events,” Saindon pointed out. “Every Wednesday evening is pool night, come give it a try! All skill levels are welcome, and it’s relaxing and fun.” Another benefit is watching a game on “the big screen,” as well as activities such as darts and shuffleboard.
