BELGRADE — The Belgrade Public Library will heat things up this winter with its new Cabin Fever Reliever series. The monthly series will include four different programs for a variety of interests.
The first program, Seeing Colors, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, facilitated by Kate Gawler, and is for all crafters, artists and anyone else who loves color. Ever wonder why some color combinations sizzle while others fizzle? It’s all about the tertiary pairs. Those attending will explore colors and get a tool to see colors in a new way and learn to combine them fearlessly. Those who wish may bring some of their work for a group discussion following the presentation.
On Friday, March 20, retired Maine Game Warden Roger Guay will discuss his career and his book “A Good Man with a Dog,” cowritten with Maine crime writer Kate Flora.
Guay’s career included catching poachers, finding lost hikers and hunters, protecting Maine’s pristine wilderness, and investigating crimes, frequently with his brown Lab, Reba. It also brought him to the wreckage following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, where he helped search for bodies, an experience that left him scarred and disheartened. But he found hope with the support of family and friends, and eventually returned to the woods he knew and loved from the days of his youth.
The talk will be at 6 p.m. and include a social period with warm comfort foods to help easy the late-winter blahs.
Other events, with details to come, are a cooking-themed pre-Valentines Day event, and an April gardening discussion.
