LEWISTON — A lunchtime seminar on “Partnering with Census 2020” will be held Tuesday, July 16, from noon to 1:30 p.m., in the LA Metro Chamber’s conference room at 415 Lisbon St.
Topics include:
* Why a complete census count is important to our communities — Its more than just seats in the House of Representatives.
* How the 2020 will be different from 2010 — New options for participation.
* What challenges to an accurate count exist in 2020 — Raise your awareness of challenges in your communities.
* Gain insight into historically hard to count areas and populations — How you can help.
* What funding can be impacted by low census results — Which programs do you recognize?
* What concrete steps your organization can take to help raise community awareness — Use your networking abilities regarding confidentiality, security, ease of participation, employment opportunities and why being counted matters to everyone.
The workshop is designed to be of most interest to community leaders wanting to support a complete count, to avoid an impact on federal program dollars Maine will receive for the next 10 years, and organizations interested in supporting their communities by partnering with the 2020 Census.
