WATERVILLE — The Waterville Public Library has a solid lineup of events planned for kids and teens for the summer.
The summer reading program is “A Universe of Stories.” Activities will include out of this world crafts, activities, and games during scheduled programs.
The 2019 Children’s Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through seventh grade. The inclusive program makes room for all reading levels: Listeners, Early Readers, and Independent Readers. Recognition awards will be celebrated for three levels of achievement.
Readers may register for “A Universe of Stories” starting on Monday, June 24, by filling out a registration form either at the children’s desk or online at www.watervillelibrary.org.
On Wednesday, June 26, Therapy dogs from Kennebec Valley Love on a Leash will visit from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for read-aloud time and visiting. The event is for kids who want to practice their reading skills and for families who want a fun, calming read-aloud opportunity. Readers may spend 15 minutes with a dog who loves to listen. They may bring their favorite book, or borrow one from the library’s shelves.
Beginning June 26, the library will also host Weird Science Wednesdays throughout the summer.
STEAM activities will start at 1 p.m. unless otherwise noted, and include guest speakers, experiments, movies and more. The programs are free and open to those from first to fifth grade.
The schedule is June 26th: Rockets with Chris Dorman; July 3: Citizen Scientist with Serena Sanborn; July 10, 1-3 p.m.: The Science of Me (Part 1), with Maine Discovery Museum; July 17, 1-3 p.m.: The Science of Me (Part 2), with Maine Discovery Museum; July 24: STEM — Group Building Project, Motion; July 31, 1-3 p.m.: Sci-Fi Movie (PG); Aug. 7: Tasty Stem Activity with Pete the Cat; Aug. 14, 1-3 p.m.: Movie (PG).
Regular programs for the remainder of June, all free and open to the public, are:
Satur-Play topics are Storytime with Tinkerbell on June 22 and STEM: Miniature Parachute Constructions on June 29. Satur-Play is from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Children’s Room.
Crafternoons topics this month include Rocket Bookmarks, on Tuesday, June 25. Crafternoons are every Tuesday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Children under 7 must be accompanied by a grownup helper.
Rhymetime: for Babies, toddlers and their grownups meets from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Fridays in the Children’s Department. Upcoming topics are Flowers on May 24 and Pets on May 31.
The library also offers Teen Game Night on Mondays, 4 to 6 p.m. for those ages 11-18; Teen Movie Nights at 4 p.m. Thursdays for ages 11-18 and Camp Code for teens, as well as other programs.
