UNITY — Sebasticook Regional Land Trust will host a presentation titled “Making Room for Grassland Birds in the Local Area” 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at 93 Main coffee shop, 93 Main St.
In recent decades, grassland birds — including bobolinks, eastern meadowlarks and sparrow species, have shown the steepest population decline of any group of birds in the Northeast, making them a conservation priority.
Speaker Laura Suomi-Lecker is the technical director at Somerset County Soil and Water Conservation District, where she is the manager of the Ag Allies grassland bird program. She is also the education and outreach coordinator with Avian Haven Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center. The presentation will discuss common grassland birds in Maine and what we as landowners and citizens can do to help with conservation of these iconic and beautiful birds.
