ORONO — University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer free workshops for new and aspiring sheep farmers starting Nov. 5.
Topics will include breed selection, husbandry, health, nutrition, reproduction, housing and handling. Workshops will end with a freshly made leg of lamb lunch or dinner and carving demonstration.
Workshops will be held around the state:
6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 5, UMaine Extension York County, 15 Oak St., Suite 302, Springvale;
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 8, UMaine Extension Aroostook County, 57 Houlton Road, Presque Isle;
9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 9, UMaine Extension Washington County, 28 Center St., Machias;
6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 15, UMaine Extension Piscataquis County, 165 East Main St., Dover-Foxcroft;
9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Nov. 19, UMaine Extension Hancock County, 63 Boggy Brook Road, Ellsworth.
Enrollment is limited to 30 per location.
