The Bernard Langalis Indian sculpture keeps watch over Skowhegan on a recent summer day. The 62-foot-high sculpture is one of 21 on display around town. Langlais, who founded the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, in Madison, died in 1977. Aside from those works on exhibit in Skowhegan, there are many around the state, part of the “Langlais Trail,” including an outdoor museum at his former home in Cushing. (Maureen Milliken photo)
