ANDOVER — The 38th annual Andover Olde Home Days will be the weekend of Aug. 3-5, with a variety of events all over town, all free and open to the public.
Friday night kicks off the festivities with music on the Andover Common at 6 p.m. and a local art show starting at 5 p.m. T-shirts and buttons will be for sale with this year’s theme, “Back in the Day…”
There is a full day of activities and events all over town on Saturday, beginning with one of Maine’s “best small town parades” starting at 10 a.m. on Main St. All are encouraged to participate, especially with a float with this year’s theme. Cash prizes and trophies are given to the top three floats. There will also be ATVs, horses, firetrucks from all over, Army vehicles, and more.
Also on Saturday, what is billed as “the largest amateur photo contest in the state of Maine” along with the art show, will be held at Town Hall, there is a flower show at the Andover Historical Society, and food vendors on the Common.
The antique car show will take place at Akers Ski. There is a lot of fun competition with the skillet toss at the ball field, fly casting at Morse’s yard, and kids’ games at the tennis court, Service Circle Foot Road Race in town and corn hole contest as well as a chicken barbecue at the fire station.
The town library is also holding a book sale. The Andover Ellis River Riders will host the Horse Game Show on Airport Road (old Route 5).
On the Gazebo, there will be T-shirts, hats and buttons for sale as well as four quilt raffles and a 50/50 raffle. The button prize drawings begin at noon.
People can also get horse and buggy rides and children can ride the Barrel Train.
Events at Grimaldi Field include Kids Tractor Pulls, followed by the first year of the Ford Antique Tractor Pulls, followed by the fan favorite Lawn Mower Races. Refreshments will be for sale..
On Sunday, the Andover Congregational Church will hold a Homecoming Service on the Town Common, which will include a picnic lunch.
The Ellis River Riders continue on Sunday at 9 a.m. with the Open English & Western Horse Show. New this year is a Demo Days for the Ellis River Riders. There will be horses, riders and clinicians from various disciplines to entertain and teach people about the versatility of the horse. They will have everything from dressage to roping to barrel racing, driving and much more.
