ELLSWORTH — The Maine Community Foundation seeks proposals to its Belvedere Animal Welfare Fund for projects and organizations that address population control for cats and dogs.
An anonymous donor established the Belvedere Animal Welfare Fund in 2007. It is further supported by the Doree Taylor Charitable Foundation.
Project grants are available for activities and expenses related to population control or management. C_apacity-building grants from the fund support activities that strengthen animal welfare organizations and improve overall operations. Online applications are available through the Maine Community Foundation at www.mainecf.org.
In 2017, the fund awarded 13 grants totaling $142,147 to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, Lewiston, to sterilize 1,200 cats through the Targeted & Free Roaming Cat Spay/Neuter Program; Center for Wildlife Health Research, Topsham, to build Community Spay-Neuter Clinic’s capacity to provide spay/neuter services throughout the state; Bangor Humane Society, Bangor, to provide spay/neuter assistance to low-income pet owners.
The application deadline is June 1.
