Madison Farmer’s Market opens May 12

May. 12018

MADISON — The Madison Farmer’s Market will open for the season Saturday, May 12, at Main Street Park in downtown Madison.
The market, now in its sixth season, will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine, through Oct. 20.

A “four food groups” market, the Madison Farmer’s Market offers vegetables, baked goods, honey, cheese, yogurt, meats, berries, jellies and pickles. In addition, the farmers all operate farms within 20 miles of the market’s location, lending new meaning to the concept of bringing “local foods to local people.”
This year the market is facing a funding shortfall for Maine Harvest Bucks ─ a federally funded nutrition incentive program led by the Maine Federation of Farmers Markets.
o fundraise for the program, the Madison Farmer’s Market will host a benefit Farmer Talent Show from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 27, in partnership with the Kennebec Valley Grange, 540 Main St.
The Farmer Talent Show is an open-mic event, and any special talent is welcome. Refreshments and beverages will be available.
Festivities will include a raffle for a Tubtrug Gift Basket filled with garden supplies all donated by Johnny’s Selected Seeds.
Prizes for top performances will be awarded by special guest judges. All proceeds will benefit the Maine Harvest Bucks program. Contact madisonfarmersmkt@gmail.com or call Sonia Acevedo at 207-716-6441 for more information.
