Ann Marie (Bachilas) Hagigeorges
1928-2018
RUMFORD — Ann Marie (Bachilas) Hagigeorges passed away March 7 with family by her side and under the compassionate care of the nursing staff at Rumford Hospital. Ann brought joy to everyone she touched and will be remembered as a kind, gentle woman.
Most recently Ann resided at Rumford Community Home. Born in Concord, N.H. of Greek immigrants, Ann’s family settled in Somerville, Mass. In 1951 she married Anthony “Tony” “Hagi” Hagigeorges, and they moved to Medford, Mass.
The family spent summers on Cape Cod fishing and camping on Sandy Neck Beach. Eventually, Tony built a home there, as Ann would say, “with his own two hands.” Ann went out on Tony’s fishing boat and helped pull lobster traps. She loved the seashore and spent many days walking, swimming and collecting seashells.
Ann was a dedicated volunteer at hospitals and nursing homes. She also worked at the Green Briar Jam Kitchen, welcoming tourists from all over the world. Ann was a docent at the historic Sandwich Glass Museum, where she proudly led guided tours for thousands of visitors.
As a child she played piano and, later in life, sang in St Michael’s Orthodox Church choir and the Cape Cod Chorale. Music was her passion, and she even confessed to playing “hooky” from school one day to see Frank Sinatra perform in Boston.
Ann loved to entertain and always welcomed people into her home. Should would spend days preparing food, and everyone loved her cooking. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening and dancing.
Ann is survived by her daughters, Maria Holloway and her husband, Peter of Hanover; Angela Staboulis and her husband George of Rockport, Mass., Julie Hagigeorges of Malden, Mass. and Janice Hagigeorges of California, as well as and many nieces and nephews. Ann was predeceased by her husband; her parents, Frank and Angeline (Pilioglos) Bachilas; her brother Leo and sister Evelyn.
Interment will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
