BRUNSWICK — Members of the Chamber Ensemble of Coastal Youth Orchestra recently performed for residents of Avita, an assisted living memory care community.
Serving beginner musicians through more advanced players, students ages six through high school, Coastal Youth Orchestra offers three ensembles — Fiddleheads, Coastal String Ensemble and Chamber Ensemble.
The Fiddleheads is a beginning strings ensemble recommended to younger students ages six to 10 who are new to the violin, cello, viola or bass. The Fiddleheads rehearse on Tuesdays from 4 to 4:45 p.m. in the Mt. Ararat High School chorus room.
The Coastal String Ensemble is a more advanced string ensemble open to string players age 11 and up. This group meets Tuesdays from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. in Mt. Ararat High School’s chorus room in Topsham.
The Chamber Ensemble musicians are selected from among the Coastal String Ensemble, and they explore a more challenging repertoire. All of these groups are conducted by Nancy Roderick, well known for her enthusiasm and sensitivity while working with young string players as well as for her dedication to music education.
