River Valley Rotarians hear about HOPE association

Feb. 212018

RUMFORD — Dr. Jerry Cohen was the guest speaker Feb. 5 at the River Valley Rotary Club fellowship luncheon, held at HOPE Association, 85 Lincoln Ave.
Cohen, also a Rotarian, spoke about Rotaplast International Inc., an organization committed to helping children and families worldwide by eliminating the cleft lip and/or palate, burn scarring and other deformities.

One in 700 children is born with a cleft lip or palate, or both, Cohen said. A cleft is an opening or gap of the lip or roof of the mouth that normally comes together during the early weeks of pregnancy.
Rotaplast works with local professionals, Rotarians and other organizations, sending multidisciplinary medical teams to provide free reconstructive surgery, ancillary treatment and training for the comprehensive care of these children.
Rotaplast supports education and research toward prevention of cleft lip and/or palate. Its aim is to help local professionals build sustainable models for the care of these children, improving their lives and those of their families.
The River Valley Rotary Club has donated enough money to Rotaplast to provide life changing surgery to more than 400 children.
