Winslow Elementary benefiting from Community Learning Centers

WINSLOW — Winslow Elementary School, as part of Maine’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers, provides school-day, after-school and extended-school year programs that serve Winslow students ages 4 to 6. The federally funded program providing extra learning opportunities to those who qualify is in its fourth year of a five-year grant.

The program provides for the establishment of community learning centers providing academic, artistic and cultural enrichment opportunities for children, particularly students who need extra support in order to meet state and local standards in core academic subjects such as reading, math and science.

The program is also intended to offer students a broad array of activities and to include families and the community in the educational process. Social skills are also reinforced to provide the students with the proper tools needed to be successful in all aspects of life. A strong partnership between the district’s Title 1A Program, Winslow Before and After School Childcare Program, and Early Kindergarten/21st CCLC, give the students and their families maximum support and increases their educational and social opportunities year round.
