WATERVILLE — Aqua City Actors Theatre continues its 2017-2018 season — Maine, Manners and Mayhem — with “Almost, Maine” by Aroostook County native John Cariani. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Jan. 12, 13 and 19,20, and 2 p.m. and Sundays, Jan. 14 and 21, in Studio 93 at The Center, 93 Main St.
Directed by ACAT veteran Joe Klapatch, “Almost, Maine” features a multi-generational cast of 18 actors in nine vignettes, all taking place on one cold winter night in the fictional far northern Maine hamlet of Almost.
Love is in the air, magic is in the night, and hope is in the hearts of young and old alike.
Playwright John Cariani is also an actor, performing regularly on Broadway. His play “Almost, Maine” has become a high school performance staple, making it one of the most performed plays in the world since it premiered at Portland Stage Company in 2004, according to a news release.
“It’s such a sweet show,” said Klapatch. “Every role is a lead role for the 18 actors, and I am so excited for our audiences to experience each of the vignettes. The themes of love sought and love lost are truly universal, and you can’t help but identify with the characters. Love is never easy in Almost, Maine, and every ending is not a happy one, but that is life.”
