AUGUSTA – Sen. Garrett Mason, R-Lisbon Falls, is inviting area students to join him at the State House for a day to serve as an honorary page in the Maine Senate. Mason’s District 22 comprises Durham, Greene, Leeds, Lisbon, Litchfield, Sabattus, Turner, Wales and Wayne.
The second regular session of the 128th Legislature begins Wednesday, Jan. 3, and runs through April 18.
The Legislature schedules pages for each day in the session. As a page, students have the opportunity to participate in a legislative session, delivering messages and distributing documents within the Senate Chamber.
“For young people who serve as pages, it’s both a learning experience and an opportunity to serve their fellow citizens,” Mason said. “They help ensure things run smoothly when the legislature is in session, and at the same time learn about how bills become laws. I always enjoy meeting Maine students who come to the State House to be active participants in their government.”
The program, which lasts for one day’s session, is open for students from third grade through high school.
