WATERVILLE –The Waterville Opera House has announced the Gilbert & Sullivan Players from New York City will present a theatrical classic — “HMS Pinafore” — 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at the The Waterville Opera House, 73 Elm St.
Organizers said the Opera House is the only venue north of New York City to host this one-night-only performance.
The venue will see “a tsunami of music and laughter as romantic sailors, sisters, cousins and aunts sing and dance their way across the deck of the fanciful British naval vessel with the improbable name,” noted the organizers.
The very proper Captain Corcoran and ridiculously pompous Sir Joseph Porter preside; the villainous Dick Deadeye speaks the ugly truth; and Little Buttercup reveals the outrageous mistake allowing true love to overcome the problems of class distinction. Memorable signature tunes abound onboard ship, and the riotous “Bell Trio” sparks a celebration in Act II. Tickets are $36; $15 for students.
