BRUNSWICK — Do you make or present performances in theater, music, and/or dance? Then join your colleagues and the Maine Arts Commission at a performing arts forum for producers and presenters Monday, Sept. 18, at Frontier Café, 14 Maine St.
The full day of events includes a morning session for performing arts producers and an afternoon session for those who present the work of touring artists.
“This forum is the third gathering of this type that the Commission has offered over the past few months,” said Julie Richard, executive director of the state agency. “Providing the space and time for facilitated and informal conversations and development among professionals from around our state is just one of the services that the Commission offers.”
The Performing Arts Forum will open with panel discussions, and each session will include breakout conversations as well as informal networking time. Panelists participating in the producers session include Brian Hinrichs (Bangor Symphony Orchestra), Amanda Huotari (Celebration Barn, South Paris ), Caroline Musica Koelker (Opera Maine, Portland), Anita Stewart (Portland Stage) and Lindsey Bourassa (Bourassa Dance, Portland).
Panelists participating in the presenter session include Matt Cahoon (Arts Presenters of Northern New England) Jennifer DeChant (Chocolate Church, Bath), Mike Miclon (Johnson Hall, Gardiner) Aimee Petrin (Portland Ovations) and Mitch Thomas (Gendron Franco Center, Lewiston).
The multidisciplinary nature of the performing arts sector and the spread of Maine’s rural communities have made convening this part of the arts and cultural sector difficult in the past. By documenting recent feedback from the field there remains great interest in these types of opportunities.
The first Performing Arts Forum follows a successful art-walk summit in April bringing community leaders together to share artwalk programming models; and a Maine Film Festival Forum in July, which gathered festival directors seeking better ways to advance their festivals and work.
