WATERVILLE — Including events based around anime, manga, movies, art, cosplay and more, Cirque du Geek is a celebration of everything that excites people about being a geek. This free, three-day convention takes place at the Waterville Public Library and in participating businesses every September.
The event gets under way Friday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. at the Waterville Opera House, located within Waterville City Hall, 1 Common St., where Cirque du Geek guests Jeff Kline and Hannah Telle will discuss their work and host a special question and answer panel.
Hannah Telle, an actress and singer-songwriter from Shelby, N.C., is best known for her role as the main character, Max Caulfield, in the hit, award-winning, video game series “Life is Strange,” published by Square Enix. She also provided motion capture and voices for twin sisters Iris and Rose Campbell in Square Enix’s “Murdered: Soul Suspect.” Her on-camera credits include the lead role in the film “Flesh and Blood,” which premiered at the 2016 San Diego Comic Con, as well as the lead role opposite veteran Hollywood actor Eric Roberts in the film “Six Matches.”
For nearly three decades, Jeff Kline has been one of the fortunate few “genre nerds” able to move freely between prime time and daytime television, motion pictures and the Web. He’s written/produced more than 1,000 episodes of programming. Most recently, Kline formed Darby Pop Publishing expressly so he could “play in the comic book sandbox” with some of his most creative pals. Darby Pop has released 12 trade paperbacks, including a wildly-successful series co-written by Kline and Shannon Lee– “Bruce Lee: The Dragon Rises,” “Things You Shouldn’t Remember,” “Bastard’s Waltz” and “Santa Claus: Private Eye.”
As both a writer and producer, Kline has been responsible for more than 40 animated and live-action series, specials and pilots. Most recently, he was the executive producer and co-developer of “Transformer’s: Robots in Disguise” for Cartoon Network — a follow-up to his multiple Daytime Emmy(R) Award-winning series, “Transformer’s Prime” (The Hub).
Previously, Kline was executive producer of a slew of fan-favorite series including T”hat Was Then” (ABC), “My Friends Tigger and Pooh” (Disney Playhouse), “Jackie Chan Adventures” (Kids WB), “Men in Black: The Animated Series” (Kids WB), “Extreme Ghostbusters” (BKN), “Dragon Tales” (PBS), and “Harold and the Purple Crayon” (HBO Family).

WATERVILLE — Opening night of Cirque du Geek 2017 will feature a cosplay dance with visiting DJ Mick Pratt, Friday, Sept. 8, at 8 p.m. at the Waterville Opera House, located inside Waterville City Hall, 1 Common St. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. Refreshments will be provided, and the dance is open to all ages; attendees ages 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
