David R. Long
1979 – 2017
SKOWHEGAN — David Robert Long 38, of Skowhegan, died Aug. 24at Redington-Fairview General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. David was born on Feb. 15, 1979, in Lowell, Mass., to Robert M. Long and Elaine (Long) Miller. He attended school in Massachusetts and then later in Maine.
David had a love for cooking and was most happy when he was surrounded by his friends and family. He loved to make people laugh with his impersonations and antics. He was a fighter and always managed to persevere when times got hard, all the while keeping his great sense of humor. This was true, even while he was fighting cancer over the last few months.
David was predeceased by his father, Robert M. Long, of Madison; his grandmother, Lorraine Carignan, of Dracut, Mass.; and his grandparents, Maurice and Virginia Long, of Madison.
He is survived by a daughter, Erica Long, of Madison; a son, Devon; his mother, Elaine Miller, and husband Roger Miller of Mexico; a sister, Carolynn Raye, and husband Michael of Newport; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews. David’s aunt, Kelly Long, and uncle, Mark Long, took special care of David at the end of his life, caring for him at their home. He leaves behind many friends who loved him, including Tonya Ashby, who also helped care for him.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Sept. 2, at noon at the American Legion hall in Madison. Burial will be at a later date at the Palmyra Village Cemetery.
