BINGHAM — The Somerset Woods Trustees are holding the second 2017 North Country Challenge on Saturday, Sept. 30, for walkers, runners, paddlers, and bicyclists. There is no entry fee for the event, which takes place on the Bingham to Solon trail, rain or shine. Paddlers will take to the Kennebec River.
The trail along the Kennebec is slated to become part of the Maine Long Trail. The seven-mile event begins at North Country Rivers, with an optional breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. The finish line is the CMP dam in Solon, where finishers can enjoy a picnic lunch from North Country Rivers for a fee, or can bring their own.
Those who finish the challenge, which ends at noon, get a button. Bikers begin at 9:30 a.m., walkers at 9:45 a.m., canoeists and kayakers at 10 a.m., and runners at 11 a.m.
