New members sought for Skowhegan Community Chorus

Aug. 222017

SKOWHEGAN — Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Community Chorus or just learning more about it is invited to contact director Ken Martin at 207-474-7060 or email him at ken.martin@skowhegansings.com. Outstanding vocal acumen, he stressed, is not required.

The chorus represents much of Somerset County and is composed of about 20 members from the greater Skowhegan area from as far away as Bingham, Madison, Harmony and Norridgewock. There are two annual concerts in May and December, and there are no auditions to join the chorus, just the willingness to come to rehearsals and practice. The chorus is about getting together and learning how to put a song together. One member has described the experience as spending “serious time learning the song, but we also spending a lot of time laughing together.”

Martin holds a master’s degree in music from the University of Maryland and has been directing choirs and choruses for almost 15 years. Rehearsals for the fall season begin Monday, Sept, 18, and are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 113 Dr. Mann Road. One may visit the organization’s website for more information, www.skowhegansings.com.
