Volunteers sought for family advocates

WATERVILLE — The Family Violence Project has an ongoing need for volunteer advocates to help answer its 24-hour helpline for those affected by domestic violence. As a volunteer advocate, participants work once a month from the comfort of their own homes.

Family Violence Project offers a free, 36-hour training to prepare volunteers for the role; also, a staff person always will be available to assist by phone during those times. Although successful completion of training is required for this volunteer role, no other experience is necessary.

Family Violence Project’s volunteer training consists of 12 sessions and will be held in Waterville beginning Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older, complete a volunteer interview, and pass background/reference checks prior to being accepted into the training. Volunteer interviews must be completed by the end of the business day Monday, Sept. 11.
