Norridgewock seeks new Boston Post Cane holder

Aug. 102017

NORRIDGEWOCK — The town is seeking a new recipient for the Boston Post Cane after its oldest resident, Ervina B. Goodridge, died July 2.

Goodridge, 99 at the time of her death, was a lifelong resident of the town and proud to hold the cane, according to a news release from Town Manager Richard Labelle.

The town is now asking residents that if they believe they are, or know, the oldest resident, to contact the Town Office. The town clerk will review all submissions against current records to determine the town’s oldest resident and next recipient of the Boston Post Cane.

The Boston Post Cane was distributed to New England towns in 1909 by the Boston Post. It is traditionally held by a town’s oldest resident.

Town Clerk Sharon Dodge may be reached at (207) 634-2252 or by email at sharon@townofnorridgewock.com
