Waterville Public Library anime club September topics scheduled

WATERVILLE — The Waterville Public Library Teen Anime & Art Club will feature Attack on Titan and Folktales from Japan in September.

The club meets 3 to 4 p.m. every other Tuesday in the Bartlett Room for Teens and is free and open to those ages 11 to 18, who are already anime fans or curious to know what anime is about. There are snacks and socializing and every session freatures screening of a few episodes of a popular show. Art supplies are available for those who want to get creative while they watch.

The Sept. 5 club features “Attack on Titan: Junior High.” Favorite characters from “Attack on Titan” are back, in … junior high school? Adapted from the hit spinoff manga series, this parody reimagines Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and other characters from the original manga as students and teachers at Titan Junior High School.
On Sept. 19, the club features folktales from Japans. As with any culture, Japanese kids grow up listening to the stories repeatedly told by their parents and grandparents. The boy born from a peach; the princess from the moon who is discovered inside a bamboo; the old man who can make a dead cherry tree blossom, etc. These short stories that teach kids to see both the dark and bright sides of life have passed traditional moral values from generation to generation.”
