MIFF in the Mountains film festival begins in Rangeley July 30

RANGELEY — The Rangeley Friends of the Arts will present MIFF in the Mountains, the best films of the Maine International Film Festival, from Sunday through Wednesday, July 30 through Aug. 2, at the RFA Lakeside Theater.
The festival will feature eight films over four nights, with a different film at 5 and 8 p.m. each night.

Admission is $7 per film, $50 for an all-festival pass. The Maine International Film Festival was held from July 13 to July 23 in Waterville. MIFF in the Mountains will feature an an opening night reception with William Wegman at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 30, and discussions after each film. One of the films on the schedule are “Abundant Acreage Available,” directed by Angus MacLachlan. Oscar nominee Amy Ryan stars in this film set on a North Carolina farm. Martin Scorcese, executive producer, and MacLachlan, lead “the outstanding crew who bring this haunting story to life,” said a news release from festival organizers. “Some would say it is all about the land and what that teaches, or fails to teach, those who toil on it. Another film that will be show is “Henry David Thoreau, Surveyor of the Soul,” directed by award-winning-Maine filmmaker Huey Coleman, who paints a portrait of Thoreau and his influence on thought and environmentalism.
