WATERVILLE — How does a banker and human resource director end up an interior designer? The story begins when April Cyr was born and raised in Connecticut then moved to her family’s home town in Caribou when she was a freshman in high school. That was not only a culture shock but also a wake-up call when she was sent to the potato fields to pick 12 hours a day. April is proud to say today she “learned what good honest hard work is at a young age and the more potatoes you picked, the more money you made to buy school clothes.”
Cyr’s success in customer service stems from her father’s endeavors as an entrepreneur, having owned small businesses, restaurants and bowling centers. Her business values were learned from her father’s reminders to “always be a person of your word and be a good sport.” Treating others as you would want to be treated and being fair is important to her.
April’s career choices were in banking management for more than 20 years as well as serving as a human resources director for more than eight years. However, after meeting with a career counselor, April found her passion was in interior design, so she changed career paths by achieving a degree with the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in residential planning.
Having worked as a designer for various companies, the opportunity to fulfill her dream and own her own kitchen and bath store presented itself in November 2016. She made the plunge, and now the showroom is growing weekly with up- to-date and trendy bathroom vanities and kitchen displays.
