WATERVILLE — Adotei Akwei, managing director of government relations for Amnesty International, will speak on the organization’s work in human rights and immigration at noon Tuesday, May 16, at the Alfornd Center, North Street. The talk is presented by the Mid-Maine Global Forum.
Akwei was deputy director for government relations for CARE USA before rejoining Amnesty International. At CARE, he worked on climate change, emergencies, countries in conflict and micro-finance in sub-Saharan Africa. He had worked at Amnesty for 11 years before joining CARE, including as Africa director for the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights and human rights director for the American Committee on Africa and the Africa Fund.
Originally from Ghana, he earned a masters in international relations from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
