WATERVILLE — Downtown will usher in spring with a cleanup event, followed five days later with the opening of the outdoor farmers market at its new location on Castonguay Square. Volunteers are invited to gather at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 22, in Castonguay Square to celebrate Earth Day by “making downtown Waterville shine,” organizers said in a news release. The cleanup will continue until noon.
“This is a family friendly event and a great way to teach our youth about community involvement,” the release, from Waterville Main Street, said. The Downtown Waterville Farmers Market will open from the season on Thursday, April 27, in a its new location, Castonguay Square and Common Street. The market is open, rain or shine, every Thursday through Nov. 16. In previous years, the market was in The Concourse parking lot, but that space was sold to Colby College over the winter for construction of a retail and residential building.
While the farmers market is in operation, Common Street will be closed from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
