GRAY — The Maine Wildlife Park staff is removing snow and getting the wildlife exhibits ready in anticipation of the park’s April 15 opening.
The turtle ponds may still be frozen over and the nature trails may have too much snow on them to be passable, but spring visitors will be able to see a new beaver in her pond in the fur bearer exhibit, among other animals and habitats, a news release from the park said. A variety of new and returning weekend events are planned for the season, beginning Saturday, May 6, with a Creatures of the Night display, associated with the park’s newest exhibit featuring nocturnal animals.
Also planned this season are archery and laser rifle target shooting; Maine Warden Service day, at which game wardens and warden authors will be on hand to meet park-goers; a visit from Mr. Drew & his Animals Too; a program about Portland’s International Cryptozoology Museum; and a night visit with Northern Stars Planetarium.
The Maine Wildlife Park is owned and operated by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and its goal is to promote an understanding and awareness of the wildlife, conservation and habitat protection programs and projects.
